Work begins on Sunderland’s first housing scheme

Tolent are to build 132 homes, the first phase of Sunderland City Council’s Vaux housing development and they have now broken ground.

Vaux is the first of four new residential communities being delivered by the council at Riverside Sunderland. The development will eventually consist of 1,000 new city centre homes.

These homes will be groundbreaking, made sustainably enabling people to reduce their carbon footprint and energy costs.

The first phase of these homes are planned for completion by Tolent by the end of 2023. 111 of the homes will be built to 2025 Future Homes Standard and 21 to Passivhaus standard.

Paul Webster, Tolent chief executive said: “The delivery of these modern sustainable homes pushes the boundaries of convential housing projects and I look forward to seeing the historic site develop”.

Vaux housing is part of the masterplan for Riverside Sunderland to include residential, commercial and leisure developments”.
