Following the award of a government ‘levelling up’ grant pre-construction work has been started on a planetarium in Nottinghamshire.
GF Tomlinson have begun pre-construction work on the Sherwood Observatory Science Discovery Centre in Sutton-in-Ashfield. The project plans to transform a disused underground Victorian reservoir into an education centre in the hope of encouraging school and group visits. There is to be an exhibition hall, classrooms, a cafe, meeting rooms as well as the main planetarium.
The reservoir is to have a new structure built above it increasing the useable space changing the existing structure into a habitable building. By increasing the capacity of the observatory it is hoped to encourage a new generation of scientists and engineers.
