Demolition work is taking place for a redevelopment scheme in Wigan town centre.
Following the granting of planning permission a new retail, leisure and commercial development is to be constructed. BCEGI have been appointed as the main contractor by Cityheart, Wigan Council’s Strategic Development partner and the first part of the demolition work is expected to take appoximately 18 months. Ground and enabling works will follow the demolition process when a new market hall is expected to be the first new building to be completed ready to open in 2024.
It is planned to use large amounts of material from the demolition for the new project to reduce the environmental impact of the development and this is also in keeping with BCEGI’s sustainabilitty policies.
