Plans for a new state-of-the-art eye care, research and education centre in London has been given the ‘go ahead’.
This is to be a joint venture between Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Trust, the UCL Institute of Opthalmology and Moorfields Eye Charity. Eye Care will move to a new integrated centre on the site of St Pancras Hospital which has now received final NHS and Government approval. Camden Council gave full planning permission for the centre in August and plans are underway to start construction in 2023.
Bouygues UK are named as the preferred contractor and a full construction programme has been developed with a planned opening in 2027.
This new centre is in the Knowledge Quarter, close to the UCL Bloomsbury Campus and several NHS Commercial & Charity Partners. The new building will enable all appointments to be in private rooms giving patients complete privacy with the latet technology available to assist the visually impaired during their hospital appointments while gaining access to the facilities designed specifically to deal with complex needs and procedures.
