Training Course for Groundworks

A three week training course to encourage unemployed young people onto construction sites is in the process of being designed by Civils contractor Careys and Birmingham Metropolitan College.

Plans are for the Groundworks Sector-based Work Academy Programme (SWAP) to be run at James Watt College in Great Barr Birmingham specifically for people on unemployment benefits.

Participants of the course will receive ‘extensive practical training’ in only three-weeks which will result in a CSCS card and a guaranteed job interview for groundworks vacancies with Careys.

SWAP, which is available both in England and Scotland, is managed by Jobcentre Plus and is an initiative of the Department for Work & Pensions.
