Subsea Cable facility near Blyth, Northumberland

Construction of a new subsea cable manufacturing facility in Cambois, near Blyth, Northumberland has been startd by JDR Cable Systems.

The facility is expected to be operational by 2024 with the 69,000 m2 project delivering important subsea cable manufacturing technology to the offshore wind market, with the added bonus of creating 171 local jobs in the construction phase.

As part of the BEIS Offshore Wind Manufacturing Investment Support Scheme the project is supported by His Majesty’s Government and the Secretary of State.

The facility, when complete, will produce a new catenary continuous vulcanisation (CCV) line which will make it the only facility in the UK able to supply full start-to-finish manufacturing of high voltage subsea cables for offshore wind farms to support the growing renewable energy market.
