A £29.5m student accommodation scheme in Leeds is to be built by GMI Construction Group.
Specialising in purpose-built student accommodation, the developer Alumno Group is regenerating a disused site in Whitelock Street, north of Leeds city centre.
There are plans to build an 11,840 sqm seven storey block to house 411 students, to be funded by real estate investment manager Heitman LLC and the main contractor is GMI Construction Group.
This development has been designed by Durham based architecture practice Howarth Litchfield, who have been working with Alumno from pre-planning on proposals to demolish several vacant buildings in preparation for the full re-development.
Divisional managing director of GMI Construction Group, Andrew Hurcomb said: “We are proud to continue our association with Alumno with this latest project, which will be an important part of supporting Leeds growing position as a major university city”.
“Following on from completing the first three months of this 80 week build programme and demolishing three existing buildings, concrete foundations have been laid and piling has begun for the new development, helping with the re-generation of this area of Leeds”.
