An £11m contract to extend facilities at Carlton le Willows Academy located in Gedling, Nottinghamshire has been awarded to Clegg Construction.
The work involved will include the construction of a two-storey building on the campus, fully fitted-out, also a large-scale internal refurbishment of some of the schools existing facilities.
29 new classrooms, a new main assembly hall, canteen and dining facilities together with the capacity for an additional 400 pupils will also be created by this project. The East and West Blocks of the school will be linked by the new building. Construction from brick to align with existing buildings will be used for the new South Block.
Smart technology for sustainability, together with the optimising of natural light, using low energy lighting throughout the building, natural ventilation and cooling, and underfloor heating will all be a part of the new design.
Part of the project will see a sustainable drainage solution installed as part of the ground works, including an attenuation tank aimed at avoiding any extra burden on existing public sewers caused by rainwater.
The structural engineer on the project is Moran Structural Consultants, the architect is Welham Architects and the quantity surveyor is GNA.
