Renewable Energy Deal

An agreement to purchase solar energy for its offices, depots and railway stations across the country has been signed with EDF Renewables UK by Network Rail.

49.9 MW of renewable energy capacity will be available under the new contract. This will cover approximately 15% of Network Rail’s annual consumption of non-traction energy and is to be supplied by EDF’s planned Bloys Grove solar farm, situated near Norwich.

Network Rail aim to source 100% of its non-traction energy from renewable sources by 2030.

According to Network Rail chief environment and sustainability officer Rail is in a strong position in terms of its green credentials. This new agreement marks another step in achieving the aim of serving the nation with the cleanest, greenest form of public transport.
