Bam Construction have been awarded the main contract for the redevelopment of Yeovil College’s campus.
The college is now beginning a public consultation on the plans to rebuild its facilities to take place over the next four years following selection by the Department for Education (DfE) for a share of the £1.5bn further education capital transformation fund.
The campus transformation plans will produce a campus which will show the approach and attitude to all that is done at the college.
With £12m of development having already been invested in the College during the past year important progress is being made to develop the technical skills needed by the local business community.
The plans for the new campus will see a net zero carbon operation based on the DfE’s sustainability principle. Maximising light, using thermal mass to regulate internal temperature while intergrating cross ventilation to give good air quality. Air source heat pumps will also be used for heating and hot water, LED lighting supplements, natural light, all reducing energy consumption.
The DfE investment goes a long way in helping with the £50m plus campus transformation plans which began in 2020 with completion aimed for during the next four years.
