The contract for a £7m upgrade and expansion of Borden Grammar School in Sittingbourne, Kent, planned for by Kent County Council has been awarded to Kier.
The construction of the school will be Kier’s first contract under the £500m Kent County Council construction partnership framework.
Plans for the project are for the design and construction of a standalone two-storey teaching block with three court sports hall. Staff offices, classrooms and sports facilities will also be included.
Many energy efficient features will be a part of the new building and will include motion detection light switches, variable speed drives on pumps and fans, building managment controls and smart meters with energy monitoring and reporting facilities. The new building is also designed to make the most of the natural light and ventilation.
