Oxford Station Project

The detailed design and enabling works package, part of the Oxford Corridor Phase 2 Project has been awarded to Kier for the next phase of the £65m project at Oxford railway station.

The contract which Kier has obtained will take Phase 2C and 2D of the project through to Governance for Railway Investment Projects Stage 5 before the final funding decision to be made by the Department for Transport.

Phase 2C is a Botley Road improvement which will include the replacement of the existing railway bridge over Botley Road with a new wider structure with four metrewide cycle/footways on both sides of the road. Highway lowering and realignment will add the additional height clearance to enable double-decker buses to pass underneath the bridge for the first time. The existing footbridge will also be replaced.

Platform 5, Phase 2D, station improvement works, are for the construction of an additional platform with overhead canopy, a new western station entrance, ticket office, cafe, shops, waiting room and toilets together with the construction of a subway that will connect the western entrance to the new platform. The demolition of buildings surrounding the station, road alignment works at Roger Dudman Way, and also the replacement of Sheepwash Bridge intended to improve safety at the junction with Botley Road, are all included in Kier’s package.

Joining together our knowledge and expertise of complex civil engineering with the rail section to deliver safely while aiming to minimise the level of disruption to the travelling public”.
