Plans to build a new record library and archive centre in Staffordshire are in place to begin in January 2023.
Pave Aways Building Contractors have been awarded the contract to build the Staffordshire History Centre. The project will see the existing Staffordshire Record Office, situated on Eastgate Street in Stafford, extended to include the William Salt Library. There is to be a glazed entrance which will link both buildings to create exhibition space to be used for museum, archive and library collections, including additional strong rooms to create space for a further 55 years of collections.
£3,921,540 has been raised by Staffordshire County Council funding and other grants and donations and together with a grant of £4,858,699 from the National Lottery Heritage Fund made up the total cost of the project.
