The final part of a 10 year improvement plan has been announced by Manchester Airport Group.
The redevelopment of Terminal 2 and the construction of the second part of Pier 2 to create additional aircraft stands are part of the final phase with Mace being appointed as project manager for the project.
The first part of the improvement plans saw Terminal 2 more than double in size when it re-opened in July 2021, and this latest investment will complete the improvements. A new check-in, baggage reclaim facility together with new passenger facilities will double the size of the departure lounge.
Improvement work will also take place on the airfield ready to be able to cater for the next generation aircraft. A new dual taxiway system to improve airfield efficiency together with flexible aircraft stands will enhance these improvements.
Enabling works are currently underway with completion of the project planned for 2025 when it is anticipated that approximately 80% of all passengers will use Terminal 2 with Terminal 1 expected to eventually close.
It is thought that over 500 new jobs will be created for these construction plans.
