Four projects designed to improve the islands health services are planned by the Isle of Wight NHS Trust. Kier Construction have been appointed to carry out these plans.
Construction of a high dependancy care unit designed to increase the hospital’s capacity to provide specialised services will be included in hospital works. An emergency care floor will also be created, co-locating the existing emergency department, together with urgent treatment centre and short stay facilities, access to diagnostics and improving treatment room size.
A new 18-bed acute ward is planned which will separate the planned and emergency inpatient care resulting in the better use of beds.
A combined mental health and community hub to provide treatment and talking therapy rooms, together with ‘tele-hubs’ for medicine appointments are planned for Newport High Street.
This project will ‘transform healthcare’ on the Isle of Wight.
