Investment plans for Housing Association

Bernicia, a Northumberland based housing association, has plans over the next four years to invest £210m into its buildings. Improvement works and construction of approximately 600 new homes across the northeast region are to be part of the proposed plans.

The housing association employs over 550 staff and owns and manages 14,000 properties.

The new four year plan for Bernicia proposes investments of:-

  • £85m in new housing, building 600 new homes
  • £63m major maintenance works to improve existing homes and estates
  • £61m on day to day and cyclical repairs programmes

There are also plans for more than 90% of its homes to meet energy efficiency rating SAP C or above, which would be five years ahead of government targets.

John Johnston, chief executive said: “We aim to put our human and financial resources to work over the next four years and use all of our skills in supporting our tenants, customers and communities. We also plan important extra resources to provide training, skills and job opportunities”.
