The contractor appointed to build a new leisure centre in Halifax is McLaughlin & Harvey.
With the council having secured £12.2m from the government’s Levelling Up Fund to help fund the new facility construction has been given the go-ahead.
The new centre is to be built on the site of the existing North Bridge Leisure Centre which closed in March of this year. This new facility will also replace the old Halifax swimming pool to the south of the town centre. It is thought that combining the two sites would be more cost effective and efficient.
The new North Bridge Leisure Centre is to consist of a six-lane 25 metre swimming pool with separate teaching pool. Facilities will also include a gym, excercise studios, cycling studio, an eight-courts sports hall, sauna/steam room and a cafe.
The project has been designed by GT3 Architects with completion planned for 2024.
