Derby Primary School to be Rebuilt

The primary school that in 2020 was destroyed by a teenage arsonist is to be rebuilt.

When built the new school, St Mary’s Catholic Voluntary Academy situated in Broadway, Derby will be the first purpose built biophilic primary school in the UK, being part of a pilot scheme for the Department of Education.

Biophilia, an approach which focuses on biodiversity through design means that the new school will be net zero in operation. The project is to have five single storey buildings which will be connected by covered walkways, made mostly from timber with structurally insulated panels. Air Source heat pumps will installed and photovoltaic solar panels and some of the roof will be green wildflower seeded. All in all creating an exciting new school ready to welcome pupils.
