Crossrail Announces Appointment of New CEO – on Loan from London Underground

London Underground Managing Director  Mark Wild will replace Simon Wright at the helm of the organisation as the project enters its final stages.

Mr Wild will take over on 19th November, and will initially work alongside    Mr Wright, who will step down later this year.

Crossrail said Mr Wild has been brought in to lead the project through its final phases, which include trial running, trial operations, and the opening of the central section.

Mr White who has served as London Underground MD since June 2016 will return to his role at the transport body once the Elizabeth line has opened.

London Underground Director of Network Operations, Nigel Holness will take on the Managing Director role while Mr Wild is at Crossrail.

Mr Holness was due to leave London Underground to become Metro Trains Sydney Deputy Chief Executive, but will now do so at a later date.

CN investigates the detailed reasons behind the scheme’s nine month setback – and whether more delays could follow.

Transport for  London Commissioner Mike Brown said “Marks extensive knowledge and experience of delivering major signalling and systems integration projects will be vital for the final stage of the project.

Last week, Crossrail was handed an extra £350m loan by the government to support construction and testing work on the delayed £15.4bn line.  It followed the announcement in August that the opening date for the line had been pushed back to Autumn 2019 due to delays, to the fit out of Crossrail’s new central stations and tunnels.
