Contract for extension at Wythenshaw Hospital

A £5m contract for extension works at Wythenshawe Hospital has been given to Interserve Construction by Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

Interserve will put in two new theatre suites at Wythenshawe, along with associated ancillary accommodation and a recovery area with six bed bays.

The facility will have the capacity for future expansion to include a third theatre. The new theatre will be in an extension next to the hospital’s current theatre department and above the new emergency department extension, which was also built by Interserve.

The extension will be connected to the existing acute medical facility by a new link corridor at first floor level.

Interserve Construction said it hoped to start work on site in April 2021, with a target completion date of January 2022.
