A £16m contract to build a Premier Inn hotel in York has been awarded to Clegg Construction.
This will be the sixth Premier Inn hotel to be built in York and is to be built on the site of the former Carpetright Store on Peasholme Green.
Nottingham based Clegg Construction have been awarded the contract by CBRE Investment Management.
There are plans for the four-storey budget hotel to consist of 188 bedrooms, air source heat pumps, heat recovery ventilation, LED lighting, photovoltaic cells and to also have six of the important electric car charging points.
Lyndon Bowler, Contracts manager said: “The new Premier Inn will be an exciting addition to the street scene elevating this part of York”.
“The building is to utilise a textured brick for the Layerthorpe elevation and a more contemporary lighter brick for the elevation fronting Foss Island Road, which will ensure it aligns with the character of the area. This together with recessed light, bronze/gold cladding which has an anodised finish to provide natural reflectivity that changes with the light, when completed will be spectacular”.
The Harris Partnership will be the project architects, Simpson Associates the engineer and Reach Projecj Management the project manager.
