Local authorities are to receive a share of £8m outlined by government to enable them to chase developers who are delaying cladding repairs.
The £8m from government is to be shared between 59 councils which will average out at approximately £135,000 per local authority. The Department for Levelling Up feels that this will be enough to create a difference for enforcement teams.
Those areas who have the highest number of unsafe buildings such as London, Manchester and Birmingham will be prioritised, but building owners are expected to get these urgent repairs carried out as quickly as possible. and those who do not will be urgently followed up.
Council enforcement operations will be in a better position to make the most of the powers they hold to ensure freeholders are prevented from dragging their feet and complete this urgent task.
