Birmingham Stations contract for VolkerFitzpatrick

Transport for West Midlands (TFWM) have awarded a contract to build three railway stations on the Camp Hill Line, South Birmingham to VolkerFitzpatrick.

The project, thought to be worth £61m plans to reintroduce passenger train services to Mosley, Kings Heath and Hazelwell, which will be for the first time in 80 years.

Completion of the station is planned for November 2023 as design work has already started with work on site planned to commence in November 2022. The project which will be led by TfWM is part of the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) and West Midlands Rail Executive (WMRE).

£36m towards the cost will be provided by WMCA, £20m from the Department for Transport and £5m from Birmingham City Councils clean air zone fund.

Malcolm Holmes, TfWM director of rail said: “This is an important milestone in seeing passenger trains return to the Camp Hill line, the contract is in place and construction crews eager to get on site. After many years planning and developing the scheme, this is the beginning of the final phase which will see these stations open again to the travelling public”.
