A contractor to build a reception hub for visitors walking out onto the Forth Bridge, is being sought by Network Rail.
Before Network Rail shortlists firms interested in submitting a tender contractors are being invited to state their interest. It is expected that a main contractor will be appointed by the end of 2022 with work planned to begin in 2023. A prior information notice (PIN) has been issued for this project with supply chains being invited to a Virtual event ahead of the beginning of the formal procurement excercise.
Submitted to City of Edinburgh Council earlier this year were revised proposals for the Forth Bridge Experience. A new hub at the bridge where the public will be able to access the world famous structure and be able to explore the heritage and admire the views are to be planned.
The project will also incorporate a reception centre and car park at the south side of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is planned to use the hub to prepare those heading out on the bridge walk, together with providing an access point to the structure.
Network Rail Scotland programme manager, Gerry McQuade said: “The reception hub will be the staging post for the bridge walk experience which will give the public a unique opportunity to explore the world famous structure. We look forward to working with the wider construction industry to develop a shortlist to tender on what will be an exciting and challenging project”.
